What are Resin Veneers?
Resin Veneers are a process whereby a resin material (a durable material) is applied that vibrates and hardens with a special light, which eventually “attaches” the material to the tooth to restore or improve the smile of the individual (by changing the color, shape, size or length of teeth).
Resin Veneers – When Are They Used for?
Resin Veneers are an option that can be considered for:
- The restoration of the cavities (composite resins are used to fill the cavities).
- The repair of broken or cracked teeth.
- Improving the appearance of discolored teeth.
- Close the spaces between the teeth.
- Make the teeth look longer.
- Change the shape of the teeth.
- As an alternative to amalgam fillings.
- Protect a portion of the root of the tooth that has been exposed when the gums retreat beneath it.
Resin Veneers – What procedure is followed?
For the best effect on the Resin Veneers, a minimum of two appointments are required. One for assessing the condition and creating a treatment plan and one for bonding them.
- Diagnosis and treatment planDuring this appointment, your dentist will examine your teeth to make sure the Resin Veneers are right for you. It will then inform you about the process and some of its limitations. It is important to tell your dentist the result you want to see.
- BondingAnesthesia is often not necessary unless the treatment is more invasive. Then we will start the preparation of the tooth so that the Resin Veneers can be applied on it.On the Resin Veneers it is not necessary to remove dental tissue (this always depends on the treatment plan you have agreed with the dentist).
Then we will have a tooth preparation with special materials to allow the Resin Veneers to be bonded and take its final shape on it.
Finally, once the Resin Veneer finishing process has been completed, the doctor and the patient will examine it to achieve a perfect result.
Resin Veneers – Post-operative stage
You should not eat anything hard on the side where the Resin Veneers have been placed for at least 4 hours.
A week later, you should make an appointment to re-examine the Resin Veneers, examine the details and refine them.
