What is Botox?

Botox is a popular worldwide method of treating and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

It is an injectable, non-invasive treatment that will eliminate wrinkles in just one session. Botulinum toxin type A, today known as Botox, has been approved for many years and is applied by various medical specialties to treat various neurological diseases, certain types of migraine, blepharospasm, as well as in case of hyperhidrosis (armpits-palms-soles).

How does Botox work?

Allantotoxin or botulinum toxin type A, targets the nervous system, disrupting the nerve signaling processes that stimulate muscle contraction. The substance is not absorbed by the body, so it is safe. With a series of tiny injections in the wrinkle area, the muscle stops contracting. It has the effect of smoothing out wrinkles and preventing the appearance of new ones.

It is effective on both types of wrinkles:

  • Dynamic (when we make expressions and then they disappear).
  • Static (visible, no expressions).

Whatever the reason for treating wrinkles, the goal is to improve the overall contour and appearance of the face, without affecting facial expression.

Where can we do Botox on the face?

  • Vertical wrinkles in the middle of the forehead.
  • Wrinkles around the eyes, in the so-called crow’s feet.
  • Lines on the upper lip.
  • Horizontal forehead wrinkles.
  • Nasolabuccal wrinkles which extend from the corners of the mouth to the wings of the nose.
  • Frown lines above the eyebrows.
  • Gummy smiles.
  • Droopy smiles.
  • Sharp Jawlines.
  • Chin dimpling.

How long does Botox last?

The effect of Botox is temporary and can last from 3 to 6 months. Ideally, it should be repeated 2-3 times a year.

Does Botox work for me?

There is no exact age for this treatment. Some highly expressive people may develop wrinkles earlier than average. Around the age of 28-30 years it can be done to prevent the appearance of expression wrinkles. As we age, this treatment smoothes existing wrinkles and prevents new ones from forming.
